No tsunami threat to PH after 6.9 quake off Indonesia’s Banda Sea


The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Wednesday, Nov. 8 that there is "no tsunami threat" to the Philippines after the magnitude-6.9 quake that struck Indonesia’s Banda Sea.

The earthquake with a depth of 10 kilometers occurred at 12:53 p.m., said Phivolcs.

Banda Sea is among the seas that surround Maluku Islands of Indonesia, which is connected to the Pacific Ocean.

"No tsunami threat exists based on the available data," said Phivolcs.

It noted that there is "no action required" in line with the happening. (Lizst Torres Abello)
