Lanao del Sur 2nd district Rep. Yasser Alonto Balindong has yet to warm his seat as House deputy speaker, but he already has some fighting words.
In a statement Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 8, Balindong vowed to do all he can to "defend the honor and integrity of the House of Representatives".
“As representative of the 2nd district of Lanao del Sur and as a deputy speaker, and in compliance with the resolution that we overwhelmingly adopted on Monday, I am committed to defend the honor and integrity of the House of Representatives,” he said.
Balindong was referring to the adoption of House Resolution (HR) No.1414, titled "Upholding the integrity and honor of the House of Representatives and expressing appreciation, solidarity, and support to the leadership of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez".
The measure was pursued Monday. Nov. 6 in the light of former president Rodrigo Duterte's recent tirades against the House and Romualdez.
The next day, Balindong was tapped to replace Davao City 3rd district Rep. Isidro Ungab as deputy speaker.
