Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Monday, Oct. 9, expressed her concern for the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by the Israel-Hamas conflict.
“We, the residents of Quezon City, convey our heartfelt concern for the victims affected by the intensifying conflict between Israel and Hamas. Our thoughts and prayers are particularly extended to those in our sister city of Rishon LeZion,” she said.
“Our thoughts are also on the thousands of Overseas Filipino Workers who may be affected by this unfortunate circumstance,” she added.
“We join the international community in calling for the immediate resolution of this bloody unrest, which has already claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent men, women, and children,” she said.
She also hoped that both parties involved will exercise the highest level of self-control and moderation to prevent the situation from worsening.
Belmonte also emphasized that unity and peace advocacy are crucial during difficult times.
“In times of darkness and despair, it is crucial that we all come together to advocate a lasting and sustainable peace,” she stressed.
On Saturday morning, Oct. 7, Hamas launched thousands of rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, simultaneously with militants infiltrating various locations within the country.
The attack prompted the Israeli government to declare a state of war.
The attack on Israel occurred during the Jewish festival of Simchat Torah, a day meant for celebration and joy.
