Imee Marcos declares her loyalty to Dutertes; calls for respect for 'Yolanda' victims
By Dhel Nazario
Sen. Imelda "Imee" Marcos said on Wednesday, November 8, called for respect to the thousands who perished in the wake of Super Typhoon Yolanda's onslaught 10 years ago.
Marcos mentioned in a statement on the 10th anniversary of the Super Typhoon Yolanda tragedy that the solidarity that paved the way for recovery from it should be remembered.
Without naming anyone, she added that the country would sink if those who continue to destroy the things that were started from the tragedy's outcome were permitted to do so.
"Kabastusan sa aral ng Yolanda ang pinagkakaabalahan ng mga pulitikong ginugutay-gutay ang bansa at ginagamit sa pagpapapogi at pagpapalapad ng papel (Politicians are busy with dividing the country to make an impression and expand credentials)," she said.
Even though that the country is an archipelago, she added that it should not act like an island.
She stated that the lesson that Yolanda taught 10 years ago is still alive within her - that no catastrophe can drown the strength of Filipinos who are wise.
Friendship with Duterte
Marcos also mentioned that in 2015, she was the first and the only governor who declared support from former President Rodrigo Duterte. She said that she saw in him his father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. who was a true friend and was honest to the country.
She said that she would never be mum about the betrayal and disrespect that Duterte suffered when he allowed her father to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Even when she's the only one left, according to her, she will remain loyal to Duterte.
"Ang isang anak na humarap sa napakaraming pananaksak sa likod ay hindi kailanman tatahimik sa mga pagtataksil at pambabastos sa taong gumalang sa aking ama, noong pahintulutan niyang mahimlay ito sa libingang para sa kanya (A child who faced so many betrayals will never be silent against treachery and disrespect to a person who respected my father, when he permitted him to rest in a cemetery meant for him)," Marcos said.
"Kaibigan ko talaga siya, higit lalo si Inday Sara, mga kaibigan ko sa pagpapaunlad ng bayan, pagpapanatili ng kapayapaan at pakikipaglaban kontra sa pwersa ng kasamaang nagpapalaganap ng katiwalian, gutom at katrayduran (He's really my friend, especially Inday Sara, my friends in strengthening the country, keeping peace and fighting against evil forces who are disseminating corruption, hunger, and betrayal)," she added.
