A gunman died when he shot it out with police operatives who were arresting him for killing a man in Tondo, Manila on Sunday, Nov. 5, the Manila Police District (MPD) reported on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
Police identified the slain suspect as Ernesto Alimoot, 40, a resident of Barangay 105, Tondo. His alleged cohort, Johnne Barnachia, 23, was arrested.
The Smokey Mountain Police Community Police Precinct (PCP) launched a follow-up operation after Barnachia disclosed Alimoot's whereabouts.
As the police reached Alimoot's place in Barangay 105, the latter fired his gun at them, prompting the lawmen to fire back which resulted in his death.
Hours prior to the shootout, Alimoot shot dead and man who was having a drinking session with friends in Tondo, police said.
The MPD did not disclose the name of the victim.
Alimoot immediately fled after the shooting.
Authorities later received information about the gun that Alimoot used in the crime, which led them to Barnachia.
They learned that the gun was only handed by Alimoot to Barnachia after the shooting incident.
