It didn't take long for Pampanga 3rd district. Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales Jr. to find a new political party to call "home".
On Wednesday, Nov. 8, Gonzales joined two other House members in joining the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party--the largest party in the House of Representatives.
The other two were Pampanga 1st district Rep. Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II and Siquijor lone district Rep. Zaldy Villa.
It was only last Monday, Nov. 6 when Gonzales--the senior deputy speaker--resigned as a member of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) during plenary session.
Right after this, he called out former president Rodrigo Duterte--PDP-Laban's chairman--for branding the House as a "rotten" institution last month.
House Majority Leader Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Mannix Dalipe confirmed to reporters Wednesday afternoon that Gonzales, Lazatin, and Villa had already taken their oath with Lakas-CMD.
Including Nueva Ecija 1st district Rep. Mikaela Angela Suansing who was sworn in to the party Tuesday, Nov. 7, Lakas-CMD now has 77 members in the House--the largest of any faction.

Lazatin and Villa were also formerly stalwarts of PDP-Laban. Suansing, on the other hand, came from the Nacionalista Party (NP).
Speaker Martin Romualdez, Lakas-CMD president and leader of the 300-plus strong House, said the entry of Gonzales, Lazatin, and Villa will further boost the Lakas-CMD's representation in the bigger chamber.
“We are very honored to welcome Senior Deputy Speaker Dong, Cong. Jon and Cong. Zaldy to our party. They are a great addition to the strength and diversity of Lakas-CMD, which is a coalition of hard-working public servants who share a common goal of serving the Filipino people with integrity and dedication under President Marcos' administration,” Romualdez said.
“Our party remains steadfast in its dedication to nation-building and we thank those joining us for committing to contribute to shaping a better and progressive Philippines,” added the Leyte 1st district congressman.
