Marcos told DPWH-6 officials that the bridge repair is a “priority” during a visit on October 6.
The Chief Executive said it is imperative for the bridge to be immediately repaired for easier transportation not only of people but also of essential goods to Antique.
The DPWH is currently repairing the bridge.
Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda had earlier announced a P300-million budget for the construction of a new Paliwan Bridge included in the 2023 national budget.
The DPWH recommended that it is better to build a parallel bridge than repair the old one which is almost 50-years-old.
Antique Rep. AA Legarda said a bailey bridge was opened to the public on Monday, October 9.
The bridge that connects the towns of Laua-an and Bugasong, Antique partially collapsed in October 2022 during the onslaught of tropical storm “Paeng.”
