Cops arrest driver of motorcycle used in killing of newly-elected barangay official in Pasay
Police arrested the driver of a motorcycle which was used by the gunman in the killing of a newly-elected barangay councilor in Pasay City on Sunday, Nov. 6.
Police Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr., director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said the suspect, Vladimir Catubay, was collared around 300 meters from where the victim was shot dead.
Catubay was tagged as an accomplice in the killing of Lina Censon Camacho, a former barangay treasurer who secured a seat in the council of Barangay 37 in Pasay City.
“Based on the CCTV footage from the said Barangay, we found out that the suspects arrived in front of the Barangay Hall while onboard a motorcycle when the back rider alighted and fired two shots hitting the victim’s neck. The suspects fled after the incident onboard the getaway motorcycle,” said Nartatez.
While the suspects were on their way to escape, Nartatez said their motorcycle bumped into another motorist that caused them to crash.
“In that instance, our police patrollers in the area responded and ran after the fleeing suspects which resulted in the arrest of suspect Catubay and the confiscation of several pieces of evidence including a red Flair Rusi Motorcycle allegedly owned by a certain security guard,” said Nartatez.
He added that the brother of the motorcycle owner claimed that the motorcycle was borrowed on Oct. 22 by a parking attendant/barker from his brother. Since then, the parking attendant failed to return the motorcycle.
The official said Catubay confessed to three different places which, according to him, the possible whereabouts of the gunman. But the gunman was not around when the police went to the area.
“Through further follow-up operation we were able to identify the identity of the at-large suspect and to not pre-empt the ongoing investigation we will not yet disclose information related to the suspect,” said Nartatez
Aside from the possibility that the attack is election-related, he said investigators are also pursuing other leads since the victim was found to be engaged in a lending business.
