CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Mayor Rolando Uy announced during the mass oath-taking of newly elected barangay officials here on Tuesday, November 7, that barangay empowerment programs will continue in 2024 but only to those under his alliance.

Uy said 47 barangay captains and 47 Sangguniang Kabataan chairpersons will benefit from the program.
However, for barangays where he has no allied chairman but has councilors supporting him, Uy said they will identify their barangay empowerment programs and projects, as he wants to prioritize barangay officials who supported him.
“This time, they should understand that those 47 (officials) who faithfully joined me will be prioritized,” Uy said, adding that he supported all 80 barangays this year by providing empowerment programs regardless of political affiliation.

The city chief executive said the People’s Day program where he and other city government offices address people’s concerns continues every Wednesday at the city hall quadrangle.
Uy said P350 million in the city’s proposed budget has been allocated for barangay empowerment programs in 2024.
Apart from prioritizing empowerment programs, the 94 allied barangay captains and SK chairpersons will also be given time every Tuesday and Thursday to visit the mayor’s office and ask for help. There will also be meetings every three months that only allied officials can attend.
Meanwhile, newly elected barangay officials from other political parties took their oath as part of the requirements set by the Department of Interior and Local Government before they could assume office. The other requirements include the proclamation and submission of their Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE).
Earlier Tuesday, the city council Committee of the Whole conducted the 2024 executive budget hearing where the P11.2-billion proposed budget here next year was approved by the committee in less than four hours.

Of the budget under Uy’s RISE agenda, P1.594 billion will be allocated for the regional leadership, which includes metropolization; P1.620 billion for institutional development and participatory governance; P3.696 billion for safety, security, and human development, and P4.290 billion for economic recovery.
The budget has been referred to the committee on laws and rules before being scheduled for the plenary.
