Bulacan officials support CSJDM's bid to become 'highly-urbanized city'
City and municipal officials of Bulacan province are supporting the bid the City of San Jose Del Monte (CSJDM) under Mayor Arthur Robes to achieve the “Highly Urbanized City” status.
The ratification of CSJDM's HUC status will be submitted to the voting population of the city in a scheduled plebiscite on October 30, simultaneous with the Barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan Elections.
Residents in the city could either vote "Yes" for the HUC status or reject it.

Once it is approved, the CSJDM will become an independent city in the province of Bulacan, and thereafter voters in the city will no longer vote for governor, vice governor, and provincial board members in the next national and local elections.
However, the CSJDM will still be a part of the Bulacan province, according to Mayor Robes.
The show of support was spearheaded by Malolos City Mayor Christian D. Natividad during the monthly meeting of the Mayors League of Bulacan held at the Malolos City Hall last Friday.
Mayor Natividad said that as mayor of the capital and historic city, he is taking the role of a big brother for his fellow mayors to support all steps towards the autonomy of every municipality and city in the province to fast-track local development initiatives in their areas.
Natividad said he, along with 22 other mayors in Bulacan, fully supports CSJDM's bid to achieve the HUC status, being the first municipality in the province to become a city on September 10, 2000, through Republic Act 8797.
Malolos became the second city in Bulacan on October 8, 2001; followed by Meycauayan on December 10, 2006. Recently, Baliuag became the 4th city in the province through RA 11029.
It can be recalled that then President Rodrigo Roa Duterte proclaimed the charter of the City of San Jose Del Monte as a "highly-urbanized city" on Dec. 4, 2020, through Proclamation No. 1057.
Lone District Representative Rida Robes was very honored in announcing the proclamation.
"We have long waited for this and we will work more to make us truly deserving of this proclamation for the people of the Rising CSJDM," Rep. Robes said.
The President has the prerogative to declare a city highly urbanized within 30 days after it has reached a population of 200,000 or more as certified by the Philippine Statistics Authority (SPA). Likewise, it should have an income of at least P50 million as certified by the treasurer.
The CSJDM have both achieved the qualifications.
The presidential proclamation was requested by the city government through a resolution. (Freddie C. Velez)
