Parañaque mayor delivers State of the City's Children Address

Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez delivered his State of the City’s Children Address (SOCCA) as part of the city’s celebration of National Children’s Month on Monday, Nov. 6.
Olivarez was joined by City Administrator Atty. Voltaire Dela Cruz, Department of the Interior and Local Government Parañaque City Director Alona Raymundo, and representatives from Action for the Care Development of the Poor in the Philippines and Bridger Builder Foundation during the SOCCA.
The mayor said the National Children’s Month was declared and celebrated every November of the year based on Republic Act 10661 signed by former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III in 2015.
Olivarez reported that the city government will continue to implement programs aimed at promoting the rights and welfare of children.
He said that as a registered nurse and a professor, his administration focuses on the health and education of children in the city.
The mayor said the city government conducted measle-rubella – bivalent oral polio vaccine supplemental immunization activity to children aged 0 to 59 years old on May 2 to June 15.
Olivarez said that under the supervision of the City Health Office under Dr. Olga Virtusio and barangay health center, the city government was able to reach the target of 52,863 or 93 percent vaccine administration against measles and rubella to children aged 0 to 59 years old.
He said a total of 90 percent or 60,195 children received bivalent oral polio vaccine.
The mayor said the city government received a high rating from the Department of Health (DOH) in administering vaccines to children.
Olivarez also announced that some revision will be made on City Ordinance No. 15-19, Series of 2014, otherwise known as “The Children’s Code of the City of Parañaque” to protect the rights of children in the city.
He said the Local Council for the Protection of Children was created to look after the rights and welfare of children .
