West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. said the company will put higher discounts on the water bills of low-income and low-consuming customers.

Starting Jan. 1, 2024, Maynilad will launch the Enhanced Lifeline Program (ELP) as a way to extend greater discounts to marginalized households.

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System – Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) urged the concessionaire to implement the value deal to its customers.

Currently, Maynilad provides a 41 percent discount on the basic charge to their Regular Lifeline customers.

Regular lifeline customers are the people who consume less than 10 cubic meters of water.

Additionally, Maynilad has over 320,000 customers under the Regular Lifeline.

These group of Maynilad consumers may also avail the ELP, given that they are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) Act, or if they are living below the poverty line, as classified by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The company is also expecting an estimated 60,000 Low-income Lifeline customers to apply for the ELP discount.

Christopher Lichauco, Maynilad Customer Experience and Retails Operations Head, emphasized the advantages of its high discount rate to customers in the western parts of Metro Manila.

“There are many poor households within our concession area that can benefit from availing of the Low-Income Lifeline Rate, so we encourage all qualified customers to apply to the program,” he said.

Those who wish to submit their applications for the Low-income Lifeline rate must complete an application form, and provide their latest water bill, as well as a photocopy of their 4Ps identification to any Maynilad Business Area or Barangay Helpdesk.

Applicants who are not part of the 4Ps are required to submit a certification from the Social Welfare and Development Office and a photocopy of one government ID.

Qualifications and requirements can be found on Maynilad’s website and social media accounts.

Submission of the discount application starts on Nov. 13. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
