Late Hagedorn honored in House panel hearing

House Special Committee on West Philippine Sea (WPS) honored on Tuesday morning, Nov. 7 the late Palawan 3rd district Rep. Edward Hagedorn. 

Chairman Mandaluyong City lone district Rep. Neptali Gonzales II and the rest of the panel offered a moment of silence for Hagedorn, who was one of their vice chairmen, at the beginning of their hearing. 

"Before we begin, I would like to request a moment of silence of our Vice-chairperson, the honorable Palawan Rep. Edward S. Hagedorn, who joined our creator last month," Gonzales said. 

"Cong. Ed is a well-known environmental crusader. He is also a very active member of this committee and is very vocal about his stance regarding the protection of the [WPS]," he said. 

Discussed during the panel hearing were continued aggressive acts of Chinese vessels within Philippine territorial waters. 

Hagedorn passed away on Oct. 3, 2023 due to a lingering illness.

He was a neophyte legislator in the 19th Congress.
