France has joined the Philippines in commemorating the 10th anniversary of Super Typhoon Yolanda which had killed thousands of people during its onslaught.
The French Embassy in Manila said the resilience of the affected communities and their spirit of unity in the disaster's aftermath continue to inspire the French government.
"On this day, we remember the victims of the Super Typhoon Yolanda," the embassy said in a post on X.
"France stands together in support of those affected by natural disasters in the Philippines and worldwide," it added.
France then recognized the work done by its partnership with the Philippines through the Agence Française de Dévelopment (AFD) and ACTED Philippines for the past ten years, particularly in Samar and Leyte, which were hardly hit by Yolanda.
At least 6,000 people died in the typhoon.
France said both sides had worked on disaster risk reduction, sustainable housing, and livelihood rebuilding.
France is among the Philippines' international partners in climate action. Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, French Minister of State for Development, Francophonie and International Partnerships, went to Manila in August to express Paris' commitment to work with Manila on various areas, including climate action.
The Philippines is also counting on France for environmental protection through the latter's technical assistance and other means of support, environmentalist Senator Loren Legarda in October 2022 said.
