The Pasay City police launched a manhunt operation against one of the riding in tandem suspects who shot to death a newly-elected barangay councilor in the city on Monday, Nov. 6.
According to city police chief Col. Mario Mayames Jr., the victim was identified as Lina, 58, newly elected barangay councilor of Barangay 37.
Mayames said the incident happened at around 5:35 p.m. inside the Barangay Hall located along San Juan St., Barangay 37, Pasay City.
He said the arrested suspect was identified as Vladimer, 27, who was the driver of the motorcycle.
The city police chief said the victim was inside the Barangay Hall when the suspects arrived.
Mayames said that based on the report of Maj. Christel Carlo Villanueva, Substation 1 commander, the back rider who served as the gunman, alighted from the motorcycle and shot the victim twice hitting the railings of the Barangay Hall's glass door.
The victim suffered one gunshot wound at the back of her neck and was rushed to the Adventist Medical Center. She died while undergoing treatment.
The police said members of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) who were around the area conducting surveillance operation were alerted of the incident and chased after the suspects.
The suspects tried to flee on board their motorcycle but accidentally bumped a motorist who was waiting for a ride causing them to fall into the ground.
Vladimer was immediately apprehended by the responding policemen while the gunman fled on foot.
The police said the motive for the killing could have something to do with Lina’s money lending business. The victim was a Barangay Treasurer and had been receiving death threats prior to her run for barangay councilor during the recent Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
The gunman, who has been identified by the authorities, is now the subject of a manhunt operation.
The arrested suspect is now detained at the police custodial facility and was charged with murder.
