Valenzuela gov't kicks off National Children's Month celebration
Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian led the kick-off ceremony for the city’s celebration of the National Children’s Month at the Valenzuela City People’s Park Ampitheater on Monday, Nov. 6.
The event, dubbed as “Pista ng mga Bata! The National Children’s Month kick-off Ceremony,” was attended by officials from Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), Department of Health (DOH), and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Philippines, youth advocates, as well as the children in the city and their parents.
According to the city government, the National Children’s Month celebration is a resounding for children’s rights to a healthy, nourished and sheltered life.
During his speech, Gatchalian said that one of his priorities as a mayor is to continue the different projects of the city government for the improvement of the lives of the children.
He said the city’s Enhanced Citywide Feeding Program implemented during his term has already benefited around 4,000 Kinder to Grade 6 students.
The Valenzuela Central Kitchenkitchen is currently being built in Barangay Malinta where volunteers, dietitians, will soon work to feed students in the city with nutritious food.

It will serve as a preparation area for food that will be distributed to the beneficiaries of the local government’s feeding programs.
Gatchalian said the beneficiaries of the kitchen will be the children who are too thin for their height, as well as the 8,914 pupils of the city’s daycare centers.
He added that they are expecting to complete the establishment by the first quarter of 2024 and assured the public that all the children in the daycare centers will be given proper and enough nutrition.
Council for the Welfare of Children Executive Director Usec. Angelo Tapales who graced the event said the celebration is a call for the public to strengthen their commitment to inspire and improve the lives of the children.
Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario S. Vergeire pledged to support all the city’s programs for children.
During the event themed “Healthy, Nourished, Sheltered: Ensuring the Right to Life For All,” a parade of children wearing adorable vegetables and fruits costumes was conducted. It was participated in by children from Valenzuela Young Heroes, Bahay Pag-asa and Bahay Kalinga, Pag-asa Youth Association, Muslim children, children with disability, among others.
The children advocates also raised magic wands and yelled “Para sa Bata!” to formally kickstart the National Children’s Month celebration.
The local government said that booths were also placed in the area while a cooking show was prepared for the children and their parents to enjoy and learn during the event.
Also present during the event were Valenzuela City Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Valenzuela Director Sudi Valencia, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Noel Bagano, UNICEF Philippines Nutrition Manager Alice Nkoroi, Department of Social Welfare adn Development (DSWD) Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar, Chief of City Social Welfare Operations Ms. Dorothy Evangelista, members of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children, and child advocates in the city
