MMDA forms strike force vs illegal parking of vehicles along Metro Manila roads
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has created a strike force that was tasked to run after motorists who are illegally parking their vehicles along the road in various parts of Metro Manila.
MMDA chairman Don Artes said the focus of the operation is the Mabuhay Lane which is be used as alternative road from major thoroughfares in Metro Manila, especially amid the expected increase in the volume of vehicles for the Holiday season.
“The strike force will be composed of several teams of motorcycle-riding traffic enforcers to be deployed on areas where illegal parking is reported,” said Artes.
The strike force, according to Artes, will be headed by MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana and Traffic Discipline Office Director for Enforcement Victor Nuñez.
He said the target areas for the strike force are those where the agency previously conducted operations.
Illegal parking along the roads is a perennial problem in Metro Manila, with some being attributed to motor vehicle owners without own garage for their cars.
"The strike force shall conduct regular clearing operations on all Mabuhay Lanes and reported areas to ensure that alternate routes for EDSA are passable and obstruction-free,” said Artes.
“They will be equipped with body-worn cameras and handheld ticketing devices which they will use in their operation," he added.
Artes also urged the public to report to the agency areas where there is a high concentration of illegally-parked vehicles.
