Bautista reinstates Guadiz as LTFRB chair

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista has ordered the reinstatement of lawyer Teofilo Guadiz III as chairman of the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Bautista told the Manila Bulletin that Guadiz will be back as LTFRB chairperson on Monday, Nov. 6, citing a special order he signed.

“In the exigency and best interest of service, Assistant Secretary Teofilo Guadiz III is hereby reinstated as chairperson of the LTFRB, effective 6 November 2023,” the order read.

Last month, President Marcos suspended Guadiz over allegations of corruption in securing franchises especially for modern jeepneys, the allegation was made by his former aide Jeffrey Tumbado.

Marcos made the announcement after a press conference on Oct. 9 when Tumbado made the allegations against Guadiz who repeatedly denied the allegation.

But Tumbado later recanted his statement in an affidavit he submitted to a Quezon City court.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Nov. 5, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said the suspension order against Guadiz was already lifted after Tumbado withdrew his corruption allegation against his former boss.
