Two snatchers were arrested after some residents chased them for robbing a woman in Binondo, Manila on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
The authorities identified the suspects as alias "Apol" and "Macmac".
Based on footage caught by the barangay's closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the victims carrying their belongings were walking along the sidewalk of Quintin Paredes Street corner Dasmariñas Street in Binondo.
In the video, one of the suspects was hiding behind a post and was waiting for the victims to pass by so he could follow them.
His cohort who was onboard a motorcycle drove ahead of the victims and pulled over to wait for the suspect.
When the victims were about to cross the street, the man who was following them suddenly grabbed her purse, then ran towards his cohort and drove away.
The people who witnessed the incident chased the two suspects, which caused the suspects' motorcycle to hit two cars.
The chase brought traffic to the street.
The two suspects were cornered along Yuchengco Street, resulting in their arrest.
Recovered from them was the victim's purse with P18,000 cash inside.
Police said that the victim did not file a complaint, but the two suspects were detained at Binondo Police Station, as police said that they had a pending warrant of arrest for other cases.
