Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has committed the full support of the police organization to the government amid rumors of a destabilization plot allegedly being initiated by groups that include retired military officials.
Acorda said they have been monitoring the situation in the PNP and right now, they have not detected any attempt to recruit active policemen in the alleged plot to overthrow the administration of President Marcos.
“On the part of the PNP, we are 100 percent in full support of the administration and the government. I don’t see any reason for destabilization but we are continuously monitoring,” said Acorda.
Earlier, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner, Jr. said there are attempts by some groups to overthrow the Marcos administration, citing several reasons.
He said he already talked with some retired military officials whose names cropped up in their monitoring,
Brawner assured that he will not allow that to happen.
On the part of the PNP, Acorda said they do not see any reason to justify any destabilization plot.
“We are very much confident the government is very stable. On the part of the PNP, we don’t see any reason to do it,” said Acorda.
One of the alleged reasons being used is the issue on the Military and Uniformed Personnel pension system wherein the Marcos administration is pushing for reform that includes mandatory contribution from the salary of soldiers.
Acorda said while there are indeed some issues, he expressed confidence that everything is now being addressed.
