Benilde claimed its eighth win in 12 outings that solidified its place in the magic four after languishing mostly at the lower half of the standings for most of the tournament.
While he liked Gozum’s effort, CSB coach Charles Tiu said the mission is far from over.
"We are a bit more locked in, paying more attention to details and there's more sense of urgency and now we have to treat every game like a playoff game if we want to make it to the final four," said Tiu, whose team held AU to the third lowest scoring output in a game this season.
“They're starting to figure out their roles, pero kulang pa we're far from what we want to be," he added.
Miguel Oczon and Miguel Corteza chipped in 11 points apiece while Mark Sangco did the rest with eight points, 11 rebounds, six assists, two blocks and a steal as Benilde braces for its much-awaited rematch with fierce rival Jose Rizal University on Tuesday.
The Blazers needed the whole opening quarter to warm up though.
Up by just a hairline, 17-16, the quartet of Oczon, Gozum, Corteza and Sangco conspired in a big second quarter offensive that saw Benilde outscore AU, 23-12, and erect a 40-28 lead at the break.
They never looked back from there.
Lorenz Capulong's efforts of 18 points and 12 rebounds was put to waste as the Chiefs suffered their 10th loss in 12 games.
