'Golden' boy Jungkook achieves highest first-day sales for solo album in K-pop history

BTS’ youngest member Jungkook set a new record for achieving the highest first-day sales for a solo album in K-pop history. 

Jungkook released his first solo album “Golden” on Nov. 3 consisting of 11 songs including the main track “Standing Next to You,” solo single "Seven (feat. Latto)" in both clean and explicit versions, and "3D (feat. Jack Harlow)” as well as brand new tracks “Closer to You (feat. Major Lazer),” “Yes or No,” “Please Don’t Change (feat. DJ Snake),” “Hate You,” “Somebody,” “Too Sad to Dance,” and “Shot Glass of Tears.”

According to Korea’s Hanteo Chart, Jungkook’s “Golden” sold a total of 2,147,389 copies on the first day of release on Nov. 3 to top the daily physical album chart.

This is the highest first-day sales for a solo album in Hanteo Chart’s history. This is also the first time that a solo album has achieved two million copies in sales on the first day of release. 

Before Jungkook, BTS’ V’s “Layover” held the status for the highest first-day sales with 1,672,138 copies. 

The music video for “Standing Next to You” has garnered 11.16 million views on YouTube as of this writing. 

It was shot in Budapest, Hungary and directed by film director Tanu Muino, who won Video of the Year at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards for Lil Nas X’s “Montero.” 

Following the release of the new album, Jungkook will make an appearance at TODAY Show’s CitiConcert Series on Nov. 6 and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Nov. 8.

Here are the 10 top-selling albums on Nov. 3 on Hanteo Chart. Albums are ranked based on Hanteo’s proprietary physical record index scores, which combine album sales and album price.
