Angat Dam to open spill gates after water level exceeded 210 meters
Spillway gates to open at 11 a.m.
Angat Dam's spill gates will open at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, to release extra water brought about by incessant rains in the past 48 hours.
Due to the continuous large inflow of rainwater to the Angat reservoir during the past 48 hours, the National Power Corporation (NPC-Angat Dam Office) has warned the Provincial governor's office, Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) as well as the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Calumpit that the dam's water level has exceeded its normal level of 210 meters.
The NPC Angat Dam office in Barangay San Lorenzo, Norzagaray, Bulacan, through Homer S. Galang, manager, said that Angat Dam will open its spillway gates with the initial opening of 0.5 meters at 11 a.m. to maintain the safe water level of the reservoir.
The Calumpit MDRRMO reminded Calumpiteneous, particularly those living in low-lying areas and near riversides in the towns of Norzagaray, Angat, Bustos, San Rafael, Baliuag, Plaridel, Pulilan, Hagonoy, and Paombong to be cautious and alert at all times.
It said that although the Angat River and Pampanga River remain at normal levels, they may experience a slight water rise because of the released water from the Angat Dam and also due to high tide.
"The public is advised to stay away from the river due to the risk of flood," the advisory stated.
