House Speaker Martin Romualdez holds Filipino revolutionary leader and Katipunan founder Gat Andres Bonifacio in high regard, saying he continues to be the country’s inspiration amid the various challenges that it faces.
Romualdez made this remark Thursday, Nov. 30, on the occasion of Bonifacio Day.
"Sa pagdiriwang natin ng Bonifacio Day, ating gunitain ang diwa at sakripisyo ni Gat Andres Bonifacio (In our celebration of Bonifacio Day, let us remember the spirit and sacrifice of Gat Andres Bonifacio)," the Speaker said.
"Ang kanyang tapang at dedikasyon sa laban para makamit ang kalayaan ay patuloy na nagsisilbing inspirasyon sa atin, lalo na sa pagharap sa mga hamon ng kasalukuyang panahon," added Romualdez, leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives.
(The courage and dedication he displayed in the fight to gain freedom continues to serve as our inspiration, especially in facing the challenges of the current times.)
Born on Nov. 30, 1863, Bonifacio is often dubbed the "The Father of the Philippine Revolution" and "Supremo". He is considered one of the national heroes of the Philippines.
He was among the founders of the Kataastaasan, Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan, or simply the Katipunan. He died on May 10, 1897.
"Nawa'y maging gabay natin ang kanyang halimbawa sa pagtahak sa landas ng pagkakaisa, katatagan, at pag-asa para sa mas maunlad at mapayapang Pilipinas," the Speaker said.
(May his example serve as our example in treading the path toward unity, resilience, and hope for a progressive and peaceful Philippines.)
"Mabuhay ang diwa ni Bonifacio! Mabuhay ang sambayanang Pilipino! (Long live the spirit of Bonifacio! Long live the Filipino nation!)" Romualdez said.
