The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) urged residents near the Angat River to prepare for possible flooding as Angat Dam and Ipo Dam in Bulacan are set to release water on Thursday, Nov. 30.

“The water level of Angat Dam as of 8 a.m. was 212.63 meters and continuously rising due to the expected light rains caused by the current weather systems,” PAGASA said in its dam situationer issued on Thursday.

“The NPC (National Power Corporation) will conduct the spilling operations at 11 a.m. today (Nov. 30) with one spillway gate [opening at] 0.5 meters [with] an initial discharge of 60 cms (cubic meters per second),” it added.

PAGASA also said Ipo Dam, which is downstream of Angat Dam, will open one spillway gate at 11 a.m., with an initial discharge of 66 cms.

Its water level was 100.48 meters as of 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Angat Dam has a spilling level of 212 meters, while Ipo Dam has a spilling level of 101 meters.

Residents in low-lying areas and near the Angat riverbanks in Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel, Calumpit, Paombong, and Hagonoy in Bulacan are urged to be cautious as the river’s level may rise.
