Gilas Pilipinas' renowned basketball player and proud Las Piñero Scottie Thompson paid a courtesy visit to Las Piñas Mayor Imelda Aguilar on Nov. 22.

Aguilar praised the basketball player for his achievements and contributions to Philippine basketball.

She also highlighted Thompson’s success that served as an inspiration for the youth of Las Piñas, motivating them to pursue their dreams with dedication and hard work.

The mayor said Thompson is currently playing for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and is a member of Gilas Pilipinas, the Philippines’ national basketball team.

Aguilar said Thompson is a product of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.

She said Thompson's visit symbolized the strong connection between the city's leadership and its successful natives.

Thompson’s journey from a local talent to a national sports figure has been a source of pride for Las Piñas, inspiring many young athletes in the city, according to Aguilar.

The basketball player, who also serves as the team manager for the Perpetual Atlas, his alma mater’s collegiate sports team, shared his experiences and challenges in the professional arena. 

Thompson expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support from his hometown and emphasized the role of Las Piñas City in his development, both as an athlete and as an individual.

He expressed his commitment to representing Las Piñas and the Philippines with pride on both the national and international stages. 

Aguilar assured the homegrown talent of her continued support.

She said the visit of Thompson not only celebrated his accomplishments but also strengthened the ties between the local government and its community icons, serving as an inspiration for future generations in Las Piñas City.
