An excellent choice.
That's how Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ron Salo described President Marcos' appointment of Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. as the new full-time Department of Agriculture (DA) secretary.
"I am honored to extend my warmest congratulations to Francisco Laurel Jr. on his well-deserved appointment," Salo said in a statement Friday, Nov. 3, shortly after Malacañang announced the appointment in the Cabinet.
"His wealth of experience and dedication to the agricultural sector make him an excellent choice for this vital role. I am confident that under his leadership, the country’s agriculture and fisheries industry will usher in a new period of growth, sustainability and prosperity," he said of Laurel.
"Under Secretary Laurel's guidance, I am particularly excited on the prospect for the creation of a new Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, of which I am one of the champions and main authors," noted Salo.
The veteran solon described Laurel as someone with a "strong background in the fisheries industry".
"I anticipate innovative approaches and sustainable practices that will not only boost the fisheries sector but also preserve our aquatic resources for future generations. This development aligns perfectly with our advocacy for a thriving and environmentally responsible agricultural landscape," Salo said.
He further said that he looks forward to working closely with Laurel on his advocacies in the agriculture sector, including the implementation of the proposed Salt Revitalization Act.
President Marcos himself had served as DA secretary before Laurel's appointment.
