Fit-again Sangalang ready for comeback in Commissioner's Cup

Sangalang underwent treatment and spent the last few months recovering in time for his scheduled return by October. He also had an extended time to get himself back to fitness after the season-opening conference was moved to Nov. 5.

“Masasabi ko talaga na ngayong conference ready na ready na talaga ako na lumaban dito sa PBA,” said Sangalang.

The veteran forward was just glad and grateful to be in the pink of health again especially after his scary battle with his condition.

“Last game namin January this year after that game straight talaga sa ospital to check kung ano yung mayroon sa akin and yun nalaman nga namin na may hyperthyroid ako,” recalled Sangalang who experienced symptoms such as fatigue and sudden weight loss.

“Sobrang hirap kasi yun nga pumayat ka parang di mo alam anong gagawin mo,” he added.

Sangalang said he was given options for treatment and opted for the radioactive iodine treatment instead of the complete removal of his thyroid or an even longer 18-month therapy.

The 31-year-old forward briefly returned and played for Magnolia during the PBA on Tour during which he felt something was still not right with his body.

“Nakapag recover ako parang two months , sabi ng doktor okay ka na balik ka na. Tapos nung naglaro ako ng On Tour, feeling ko di pa rin ako okay. May kulang pa rin sa akin,” said Sangalang.

“Then that time parang naging hypo(thyroidism) naman kasi lumalaki naman ako nung time na yun,” he added.

Sangalang’s doctors managed to treat it easily and gave the Hotshots star clearance to play again.

“Sabi ko Doc ito pala talaga yung feeling na normal ako na okay ako na pwede na talaga ako maglaro,” said Sangalang.

“Sabi ko nga 100 percent this conference ready na ako,” he added.
