College of St. Benilde head coach Charles Tiu is taking all the blame after his team fell short of its goal of reaching the Finals and winning it all in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament.

Bannered by reigning Will Gozum along with a potent supporting cast led by Migs Oczon, Miggy Corteza and Robi Nayve, the Blazers wound up with an 11-7 record good for the fourth spot at the end of the eliminations.
The team, however, got an early boot against the twice-to-beat and top seed Mapua in the semifinals 78-67 on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
Tiu stressed that he has a collection of good players and there’s no one to point fingers at for the disappointing season other than him.
“I felt we still have a really good team, the best pieces, but it falls on me. I don't think I did a great job this year to get them to play to their potential, I told them I’m the one to blame for this,” said Tiu.
Tiu also rued their numerous turnovers against Mapua something that the Blazers wanted to address ahead of the ball game but failed.
“We played enough in the first half, but we kept throwing away the ball, just too many turnovers, that was actually my main concern entering the game we can’t turn the ball over against Mapua, we finish with 21 turnovers, so it’s tough to beat like that if we throwing the ball away,” Tiu added.
Still, Tiu lauded his graduating players in the likes of Gozum, Nayve, Carlos and Corteza while also looking forward to put up a better performance next season
“That’s basketball, we just have to find a way to get better, but I’m still thankful for the guys who are graduating, they all gave their best and they kind of turned things around for Benilde,” Tiu said.
“Frustrating for sure, hopefully, we can find a way to bounce back from this next year and try to achieve our goal, one day of bringing a championship back to Benilde,”
Tiu also took to social media and apologized to the CSB community for falling short of their expectations this season.
“Thank you to the Benilde Community who have been supporting us throughout our season and for the kind words even after a loss. It was a tough season for us, and we are sorry to let you down. We failed to reach our goal, and I didn't do a good enough job coaching our team. Sorry!, “ Tiu tweeted.
