Munsayac, a lawyer, revealed his reassignment to the DepEd in his official Facebook page on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

“Sa paglipat sa Kagawaran ng Edukasyon mula sa Office of the Vice President, malugod po natin hinaharap ang mga bagong hamon sa paglilingkod (In my transfer to the Department of Education from the Office of the Vice President, I welcome the new challenges in government service),” he said in a post.

Munsayac served as spokesperson of Vice President Sara Duterte since June 2022 until he assumed the DepEd post in Oct. 1 of this year.

Duterte is the country’s Education chief, a post she holds in a concurrent capacity.

An informed source, who is privy about Munsayac’s transfer, said he was moved to DepEd following the “resignation and retirement of some undersecretaries and assistant secretaries” in the agency.

“Mas marami kasing work sa DepEd kaya mas kailangan siya dun (There is a lot of work in DepEd so he’s needed there more),” he said.

But as for who would take over Munsayac’s post as OVP spokesman, the source said there is no word yet if someone would be appointed.

“Wala pa spox sa OVP kaya si Usec. (Michael Wesley) Poa na din muna (There is no spokesman for the OVP yet, so it would be Usec. Poa for now),” the source added.

Despite his tasks as spokesman of the OVP and DepEd, as well as chief-of-staff of DepEd, the source said there is no official designation yet for Poa.

Munsayac and Duterte were classmates in law school at the San Sebastian College of Law. Munsayac graduated class valedictorian in 2005.

In 2016, Munsayac was designated commissioner and acting chairman of the PCGG, and remained in the post until he resigned in 2021 to join Duterte’s campaign team.
