A total of 649 fishers in Navotas City have received fishing nets of different sizes under the city's Handog Lambat Program, the local government said on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

The local government distributed to the registered boat owners 200-meter mesh nets in eight different sizes, which can be used to catch fish, shrimps, and crabs, to assist them in doing their livelihood.

“It has always been our priority to provide our fisherfolk with opportunities to earn a sustainable livelihood. Navoteños are seasoned at fishing. We just need to supply them with necessary gear and equipment to ensure they can continuously earn enough and support their families,” Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco said.

The local government also provided marginal fisherfolk with their own fishing boats through the NavoBangkabuhayan Program.

Last week, 56 registered Navoteño fishers were given 30-footer fiberglass boats and fishing gears through the assistance of the Office of Senator Imee Marcos. It was part of Tiangco's 51st birthday celebration on Nov. 21.
