Jigger Geverola was nabbed by operatives of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) in his home in Barangay Gutlang, Argao town, southern Cebu on Tuesday night, November 28.
Police Col. Ireneo Dalogdog, chief of the CCPO, said Geverola was arrested based on the extra-judicial confession of two suspects who were arrested two days after the Oro Sugbo Pawnshop and Jewelry Store was robbed.
Dann Carlos Flores and Jordan Baquiano identified Geverola as the one who instructed them to bring the suspected getaway vehicle to a mountainous area in Argao.
Flores is a nephew of Geverola, Dalogdog said.
Flores and Baquiano were intercepted aboard a Honda Civic car in Sibonga town, southern Cebu.
In a separate operation on Tuesday night, another man who was allegedly one of the four robbers who broke into the jewelry shop on Colon St. was apprehended.
Jerum Cambarijan Davin, 37, a resident of Barangay Capio-an, Argao, was nabbed by the Cebu Police Provincial Office based on a search warrant issued by Judge Noel Darren C. Damian of the Regional Trial Court Branch 26 in Argao.
A .45 caliber pistol and a grenade were recovered from David.
David denied involvement in the crime.
Police said it was possible that Geverola instructed Flores and Baquiano to bring the car to a mountainous area after videos showing the fleeing robbers boarding the same car started circulating on social media.
The license plate of the car was also removed and was replaced with a For Registration plate, Dalogdog said.
Dalogdog said Geverola was described by the military as an official of a communist group at the Central Visayas Regional Party Committee.
The Cebu City police chief said operations to arrest the remaining suspects are ongoing.
The stolen jewelry has yet to be recovered.
Among the charges that may be filed against the arrested suspects are robbery-in-band, illegal possession of firearms, illegal possession of explosives, and violation of the election gun ban, Dalogdog said.
