Marcos to urge global community: Honor climate financing commitments
President Marcos is expected to rally the international community to honor their commitment to climate change response efforts, particularly climate financing.

Marcos said it will be part of his agenda during his participation at the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Dubai this week.
"As we are set to participate, I leave for Dubai in the UAE tomorrow to participate in the 28th Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change or what is commonly as COP28, we are once again poised to lead," the President said on Wednesday, Nov. 29, during the ceremonial turnover of the People's Survival Fund, which supports climate change adaptation efforts of local government units and accredited community groups.
"We will use this platform to rally the global community and call upon nations to honor their commitments particularly in climate financing," he added.
This as he highlighted that the Philippines is "a trailblazer in domestic climate finance for adaptation," showcasing it’s commitment to global environmental responsibility.
He stressed that the Philippines, which is one of the most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change, must do its part in climate change mitigation.
"We have unfortunately been determined to be one of the most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change in the world. And so we must do our part here in the Philippines, but we must always take the lead when it comes to the global move and the global aspiration that those most vulnerable communities around the world will somehow be assisted by the developing countries when it comes to these measures to mitigate and to adapt to climate change," Marcos said.
During the ceremony in Malacañan, the President turned over P539.44-million fund LGUs and accredited community organizations to finance their respective climate change adaptation projects.
He is set to leave for Dubai on Thursday, Nov. 30.
