With all Filipinos affected by the Israel-Hamas war now deemed accounted for, Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ron Salo can't help but express his "deepest gratitude" to President Marcos, who employed a hands-on approach to the crisis.
This, after the President announced on Wednesday, Nov. 29 the release of Noralyn Babadilla, who was one of two overseas Filipino workers (OFW) taken hostage by Hamas rebels during their Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
"We rejoice with the family of Noralyn Babadilla and the Filipino people on the wonderful news of her safe return to Israel. This moment brings immense relief to all of us, especially considering the very long silence on her whereabouts,” Salo said in a statement.
"I extend our deepest gratitude to our President, the dedicated officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and our ambassadors, and the Israeli government for their tireless efforts in locating and ensuring the safety of Noralyn. Their collaboration and commitment have played a pivotal role in this positive outcome,” added the solon, who chairs the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs.
Babadilla’s release came a few days after Marcos confirmed the release of OFW Gelienor “Jimmy” Pacheco by the Hamas.
"The hands-on approach of President Marcos Jr. on this matter has been instrumental. His unwavering dedication to the well-being of our fellow Filipinos abroad is truly commendable,” noted Salo.
Philippine Embassy officials in Tel Aviv will attend to the needs of Babadilla in coordination with the Israeli authorities.
"The unity and cooperation demonstrated in Noralyn's case serve as a testament to the unwavering support of our government to our Filipino nationals abroad, as well as the strength of international collaboration in times of need," Salo said.
"We also acknowledge the crucial support from the governments of Egypt and the State of Qatar in facilitating this process. This collaborative effort reflects the strong bonds of friendship between nations during challenging times,” he added.
