A high-ranking congressman--second only to Speaker Martin Romualdez--has asked for "parliamentary courtesy" from Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa regarding House resolutions that favor the entry of International Criminal Court (ICC) investigators to the Philippines.
"We respect the opinion of Senator Bato de la Rosa, but we ask for parliamentary courtesy from our esteemed colleague in the Senate," Senior Deputy Speaker Pampanga 3rd district Rep. Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales Jr. said in a statement Wednesday, Nov. 29.
Dela Rosa had reportedly claimed the House--a co-equal body of the Senate in the bicameral Congress--was "weaponizing" the ICC cooperation resolutions.
"As the senator very well knows, the House of Representatives is mandated to act on resolutions filed by its members regardless of political affiliations in the same manner that the Senate takes action on measures presented by senators," Gonzales said.
Dela Rosa was the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in 2016, or when former president Rodrigo Duterte launched his aggressive anti-narcotics campaign.
He became senator three years later.
