DSWD extends P60 million worth of assistance to quake victims in Mindanao

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed P60 million worth of food and non-food items, as well as cash assistance, to families displaced by the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Nov. 17.
Based on the data from the DSWD-Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center as of Nov. 28, food and non-food items accounted for P28.2 million of the total assistance, while financial aid through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations or AICS accounted for P32.4 million.
It said the earthquake affected 16,598 families or 79,733 people in 121 barangays in Regions 11 (Davao Region) and 12 (Soccsksargen).
Meanwhile, 5,407 houses were damaged—674 were totally damaged, while 4,733 were partially damaged.
The DSWD assured that there is an adequate supply of relief goods and resources for natural disasters such as earthquakes.
The available relief resources total P2.9 billion—P86 million in standby funds, and P2.8 billion in food and non-food items.
