The controversial reality competition “Squid Game: The Challenge” debuted on top of Netflix’s weekly Global Top 10 of the most watched films and shows on the streaming platform.
“Squid Game: The Challenge” has been mired in allegations by contestants that they suffered injuries while filming the show.
According to Netflix, “Squid Game: The Challenge” debuted at No. 1 on its English TV top 10 list for the period Nov. 20 to 16, garnering 20.1 million views and emerging as the second most watched title on Netflix for the week.
"Squid Game: The Challenge" placed in the top 10 in 93 countries and regions on Netflix including No. 1 in Argentina, Bahamas, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Egypt, Kenya, Mauritius, Morocco, Réunion, South Africa, Bahrain, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Australia, New Caledonia and New Zealand.
In addition, “Squid Game,” Netflix’s biggest show, reentered the chart at No. 6 with 1.6 million views, its 21st week on the top 10 list.
Meanwhile, “Leo,” the new animated film from star, co-writer and producer Adam Sandler, debuted at No. 1 on the English Films list with 34.6 million views in the first six days to become the most watched title on Netflix for the week and the biggest debut for a Netflix animated film.
