After opening the conference with four straight defeats, Rain or Shine has decided to give import Dajuan Summers the pink slip and tapped 6-foot-7 big man Demetrius Treadwell as its new reinforcement in the 2023 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Although still in contention for the playoff spot despite the dry spell, head coach Yeng Guiao opted to push the panic button as early as now to try and turn their fortunes around and get at least five wins at the end of the eliminations.
While Summers put up decent numbers of 24.75 points, 9.25 rebounds and 2.75 assists, Rain or Shine felt the need to address a gaping hole in the middle of their defense after allowing opponents to score 106.5 points.
More than that, rebounding has also been a problem for the Elasto Painters and it was more evident in their loss to the Barangay Ginebra Kings last time out after they got outrebounded, 42-57.
Those are the issues Rain or Shine hopes to answer in the arrival of Treadwell who is set for debut on Wednesday against San Miguel Beer.
The 32-year-old journeyman, who has stints in Israel, France, Lithuania, Puerto Rico and South Korea, is expected to provide the muscle inside the paint and the much-needed rebounding for the Elasto Painters, allowing young guns like Andrei Caracut, Santi Santillan and Anton Asistio to have confidence to shoot from deep.
A natural inside operator, his addition also helps Rain or Shine alleviate the absence of rookie big man Keith Datu who is nursing a knee injury.
