TACLOBAN CITY – A high school teacher was allegedly robbed and killed by three men in this city on November 23.
Police identified the victim as Bernabe Basiano.
Basiano died after he was stabbed in the neck by the suspects identified as Yasser Ivan Yu, 18; Mark Justine Conde, 23, and Darwin Verzosa, 18.
The victim had been missing for two days when his body was found on November 25 by the owner of a house in Barangay 98, Camansihay.
Police said Basiano was thrown but not killed in the area.
The Department of Education-8 (Eastern Visayas) condemned the brutal murder of Basiano.
"This senseless act not only robs us of a valuable member of the teaching community but also shakes the very foundation of our commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for our learners."
"We reiterate our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our teachers, and we will collaborate with law enforcement agencies to implement measures that will prevent such incidents from happening in the future," DepEd-8 said.
Suspects are facing charges of robbery with homicide before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
