Tropical cyclone formation unlikely until early December — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday afternoon, Nov. 27 said it does not expect the formation of a tropical cyclone within the country’s area of responsibility in the coming days.
PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said in a live weather forecast that there is a slim chance that a low pressure area or tropical cyclone will form within the Philippine area of responsibility “until the early days of December.”
Based on PAGASA’s climatological records, one to two tropical cyclones may form or enter the country’s area of responsibility next month.
Estareja said the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” may continue to bring colder weather with light rains over Northern Luzon in the next 24 hours.
Batanes and Babuyan Islands may have light monsoon rains, while Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley may experience isolated light monsoon rains.
Meanwhile, Estareja said the easterlies—or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Quezon province.
He warned of potential flash floods or landslides, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA also cautioned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.
