2 militiamen killed in Basilan IED explosion

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two militiamen were killed and two others were injured when an improvised explosive device went off on Monday, November 28, in Sitio Bato Piat, Barangay Limbocandis, Sumisip, Basilan.

The fatalities were identified as Rit Iklaman, 41, of Barangay Guiong, Sumisip, and Ligaya Ajanal, 36, of Barangay Lukketon, also in Sumisip.

The wounded militiamen were identified as Musab  Balaman, 37, of Barangay Baiwas, Sumisip, and Bibot Sabtalan, 38, also a civilian asset from Barangay Guiong.

Investigation revealed that the victims were conducting a law enforcement operation in Sitio Bato Piat when the bomb exploded.

Police believe that the explosive was planted in the area by lawless elements.

The group was operating in connection with the alleged presence of the Abu Sayyaf Group in the area led by Tawakkal Bayali.
