Miss Universe Nicaragua national director banned from returning to home country - reports

The government of Nicaragua has banned the national director of Miss Universe Nicaragua from re-entering her home country following the triumph of Nicaraguan beauty queen Sheynnis Palacios at the 72nd Miss Universe Competition in El Salvador last weekend.

According to reports, Miss Nicaragua national director Karen Celeberrti and her daughter were detained upon returning from Mexico after they arrived at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua recently. Karen and her daughter were subsequently returned to Mexico.

The Directorate of Migration and Foreigners Affairs in Nicaragua prevented Karen and her daughter from entering the country following activities related to Miss Universe 2023.

According to reports, the entourage of Sheynnis was suspected of being opposed to the government.

With this move, it seems there will be no homecoming activities for Miss Universe in Nicaragua.

Sheynnis was groomed by the Miss Universe Nicaragua Organization to participate in this year's Miss Universe Competition. It was unknown what would happen to Nicaragua's first Miss Universe since she was connected with Karen.

After the competition, Sheynnis flew to New York City where she will live to fulfill her reign for one year.

Karen was a finalist in Miss Nicaragua in 1991. She has been the national director of Miss Universe Nicaragua since 2001.

According to reports, the entourage of Sheynnis was suspected of being opposed to the government. 

Unconfirmed reports said authorities in Nicaragua also prevented two visual artists from painting a mural in honor of the new Miss Universe.

Sheynnis has not commented on the situation.
