DPWH: Infra damage due to shear line effects now at P649M in Eastern Visayas
The damage to infrastructure wrought by heavy rains spawned by the shear line in the past few days has already reached P649 million Eastern Visayas, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
DPWH-8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon said most of the damage was reported in the provinces of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar.
Citing reports from the field, Tabacon said the estimated damage cost for 12 bridges in the region, for instance, was P50.5 million while flood control projects worth P58 million were also damaged.
A structure of P15 million and a shore protection project of around P30 million were also damaged at Catarman, Northern Samar.
The DPWH-8’s Maintenance Division said all damaged public infrastructure in Eastern Visayas would require P716.65 million for repair and reconstruction.
So far, the DPWH-8 and its field offices have cleared and restored eight road sections in Northern Samar's first and second districts, Samar's first district, and Eastern Samar District.
The DPWH-8 Quick Response Teams are still removing two national road sections in Northern Samar's 1st District. (Trixee Rosel)
