Marcos skips Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum dinner; cites hectic US trip

President Marcos explained that he did not attend the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) dinner reception as he has yet to recover from his seven-day trip to the United States last week.

Marcos said this after skipping the event held in Malacañang on Thursday evening, Nov. 23.

In an interview with reporters in Taguig City, the President believed he "ran out of steam" but assured the people he was in the pink of health.

"Basically, just ran out of steam. Hindi pa ako nakapag-recover sa biyahe (I haven't recovered from the trip yet)," he said.

"I suppose I just needed rest. I am fine now. Thank you for your concern," he added.

The APPF brings together representatives from 28 countries to discuss pressing political, security, and socio-economic issues and challenges of common concern confronting the region.

On its website, the APPF said it reflects the spirit of multilateralism, emphasizing common goals and values of the peoples of the Asia-Pacific.

On Thursday, House Speaker Martin Romualdez asked APPF member countries to support the Philippines' bid for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations (UN) Security Council for the term 2027-2028.

Romualdez said the Philippines, as a responsible member of the global community, is prepared to actively contribute to global peace and stability.

He is "very optimistic" that the forum would effectively garner support from states to strengthen the country's campaign for a UNSC seat.
