Student involved in illegal drag car racing nabbed for hurting cop


A 23-year-old college student who was allegedly involved in illegal drag racing was arrested after he injured a policeman in an attempt to evade arrest in Quezon City on Thursday, Nov. 23.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the suspect as Car Andre Perez, a 3rd year college student from Barangay Kaligayahan, Novaliches.

Report showed that at around 2:10 a.m. on Thursday, QCPD Pasong Putik Station (PS 16) operatives approached Perez and another driver, who were allegedly preparing for illegal drag racing, at the corner of Commonwealth and Mindanao Avenues, Brgy. Pasong Putik Proper, Novaliches,  when they heard a loud noise coming from the vehicles' acceleration.

However, Perez sped away causing Patrolman Selvin Razon  to be dragged by his yellow Honda Civic sedan.

The police man sustained abrasions in different parts of the body..

The PS 16 conducted a hot pursuit operation and were able to  identify the suspect as well as his residence.

Police said Perez turned himself in to Barangay Kaligayahan officials with the assistance of his father at around 9:10 a.m. on the same day.

He is currently under the custody of PS 16.

Police also recovered the vehicle used by the suspect in the illegal drag racing activity.

Perez was charged with frustrated murder, resistance and disobedience to a person of authority; alarm and scandal; and Batas Pambansa Blg. 33, as amended by Presidential Decree No. 1865 - amending Batas Pambansa Blg. 33 or "An act defining and penalizing certain prohibited acts inimical to the public interests and national security involving petroleum and/or petroleum products, prescribing penalties therefor and for other purposes" before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s office, police said.

Operatives are looking into the identity of the other driver involved in the incident.

“I commend the bravery demonstrated by Pat Razon in his pursuit to perform his duty and implement the law.  I urge our personnel to be cautious and vigilant at all times while responding to any incident," QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said.

He also thanked QCitizens for coordinating with the police which resulted in the arrest of individuals involved in crime incidents in the city.
