The Third Intermediate People’s Court of Beijing rejected disgraced Chinese-Canadian pop star Kris Wu’s appeal to overturn his 13-year prison sentence for rape and gathering a crowd to engage in promiscuous activities imposed in November 2022.

Chinese media reported on Nov. 24 that the Third Intermediate People’s Court of Beijing upheld Kris Wu’s prison sentence.

On Nov. 25 last year, the Beijing Chaoyang People's Court held that Kris Wu’s actions constituted the crime of rape and the crime of gathering a crowd to engage in promiscuous activities.

For the crime of rape, Wu, now 33, who debuted in EXO in 2012 but left the group in 2014, Wu was sentenced to 11 years and six months in prison plus deportation.

For the crime of gathering a crowd to engage in promiscuous activities, the court sentenced him to one year and ten months.

The court decided to implement a fixed term of imprisonment of 13 years plus deportation against Kris Wu.

After the verdict was handed down, Kris Wu filed an appeal with the Third Intermediate People’s Court of Beijing.

The Third Intermediate People’s Court of Beijing held that Kris Wu violated the will of the woman and took advantage of the drunkenness of multiple victims to have sex with them.

The court that sentenced him in the first trial found that from November to December 2020, Kris Wu took advantage of three drunken women who were unable to resist and forcibly had sex with them in his residence.

On July 1, 2018, at his residence, Kris Wu, together with others, arranged two women to engage in promiscuous activities after drinking, the court added.

In addition, the Beijing Municipal Tax Service of the State Taxation Administration imposed a fine of 600 million yuan ($83.7 million) on Kris Wu for tax evasion.
