Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan announced that she will start distributing the quarterly payout for the monthly financial assistance to persons with disability (PWDs) and solo parents on the first week of December.

Each PWD and solo parent will receive P3,000, covering the P500 monthly allowance from July to December this year.

She said the issued identification cards for solo parents can be renewed every year, while PWDs' IDs will take three years before getting renewed.

Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) Head Re Fugoso explained that the purpose of the ID renewal is to ensure that the solo parents and PWDs remain residents of Manila as the benefits are meant to aid Manileños.

Meanwhile, Lacuna-Pangan also cited the report from Office of Senior Citizens' Affairs (OSCA) Chief Elinor Jacinto that cash allowance for the city's senior citizens covering the months of September to December 2023 has already been processed and will be given before Christmas.

The senior citizens will receive P2,000 each, representing their P500 monthly allowances for four months since September to December.

The city government said the payout will be apart from the annual Christmas gifts that they provide to senior citizens in the city.

Fugoso said there are about 180,000 senior citizens, over 17,000 solo parents, and more than 33,000 PWDs in Manila to date.

The provision of monthly cash assistance to senior citizens, solo parents, and PWDs is part of the social amelioration program of the local government that also benefits students from the two city-run universities.
