Navotas gov't distributes cash aid, boats to 3,000 residents
The city government of Navotas announced on Thursday, Nov. 23, that it distributed cash aid and boats to 3,000 Navoteño students and fisherfolks on Wednesday, Nov. 22.
It said that the distribution of the cash assistance and boats was part of the week-long celebration of the 51st and 56th birthdays of Navotas City Mayor John Reynald "John Rey" Tiangco and his older brother, City Representative Toby Tiangco, respectively.
Some 56 Navoteño fisherfolks were given "NavoBangka" fiberglass boats and fishing gear from the Office of Senator Imee R. Marcos, the city government added.
The boats, equipped with 16-horsepower marine engines, underwater fittings, fishing nets, ropes, and fishing buoys, are under the city's NavoBangkabuhayan Program, launched in 2018.

The program aims to help fisherfolks gain sustainable livelihood and has benefited over 300 individuals since it was launched in 2018.
“We recognize the hardships that our fisherfolk experience and the sacrifices they make to give their families a better life. At the same time, we are grateful to Sen. Imee for the continuous assistance she extends to Navoteños,” Mayor Tiangco said.
“We encourage everyone to make the most of this opportunity. Continue to save up for your families and strive to own more fishing boats,” he added.
Meanwhile, the city representative reminded the beneficiaries to help in protecting the environment from pollution and destruction.
"Most Navoteños, including us, rely on the sea for our livelihood. It's crucial that we keep our seas and oceans free from pollution to ensure a plentiful catch," Rep. Tiangco said.
Meanwhile, 2,840 Navoteño college students received P2,000 financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development in cooperation with the Office of Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr.
Agimat Partylist Representative Bryan Revilla, son of the senator, represented his father and distributed the cash assistance to the students.
The mayor thanked both Revillas for extending help to Navoteño learners.
He also reminded the students to stay diligent in their studies.
Both city leaders celebrate their birthdays every Nov. 21.
