The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has entered into a partnership with Maynilad Water Services, Inc. to utilize treated wastewater for public cleaning purposes.
MMDA Acting Chairman Don Artes has signed an agreement with the Clean and Green Project of Maynilad, allowing the utilization of treated water collected from the company’s residential and commercial clients.
Subsequently, the MMDA will conduct various cleaning activities in Metro Manila, including watering plants, cleaning roads, and purifying underpasses.
In addition to road cleanups, the treated wastewater will be used in washing center islands, barriers, plant boxes, and underpass walls, and can even be used to extinguish fires, according to the MMDA.
Maynilad emphasized that this collaboration would reduce the consumption of potable water and bolster reuse initiatives.
Furthermore, the use of treated wastewater complies with the General Effluent Standards established by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Previously, Maynilad had initiated similar efforts in cooperation with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in June this year. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
