Speaker Martin Romualdez has belied the claims of former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque that the House leader has been moving to ease out Vice President Sara Duterte from the 2028 presidential race.
Romualdez was confronted with Roque's statements Thursday, Nov. 23 during a press conference held at the start of the 31st Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
"Our good friend former Sec. Harry Roque, must have thoughts that well, he’s got his ideas, we respect his thoughts and opinions but they’re not accurate," the Speaker said in response.
"So i'll just put it to that. There’s nothing to wit, a lot of speculation, but none of that is true," added Romualdez, who is Leyte’s 1st district congressman.
The House chief had earlier said that he was focused on performing his current job and had no future poltical plans as of the moment.

Roque, a close friend of Vice President Duterte, had claimed that Romualdez was behind House Resolution (HR) No.1414, which sought to "[Uphold] the integrity and honor of the House of Representatives and [express] appreciation, solidarity, and support to the leadership of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez".
The measure, which was adopted by the 300-plus strong House, was seen by pundits as the chamber's response to former president Rodrigo Duterte's attacks the past few weeks.
The former president is Vice President Duterte's father.
Romualdez was one of the Vice President's campaign managers during the May 2022 national elections. The next national polls will take place in 2028.
